I really really wanted to like this. I love mind reading capabilities and I feel like this had the potential to be one I loved. But it didn't go there. It was too juvenile for me (and I like YA in general). Her mood was just so wishy-washy and the romance felt contrived. And while the mind abilities had potential, they were largely unrealized. I did like the story line/plot, which is why I kept reading. I wanted to see what would happen. However, I won't be reading on to the next book.

I was able to get a free Amazon kindle copy of The Mind Readers a few months back . I have been trying to read more freebies lately, because I have been neglecting them mostly so far. The Mind Readers turned out to be more than a pleasant surprise. This novel by Lori Brighton is a very entertaining and fast read even though I had some minor problems with the characters and plot. What do I mean with problems with the characters? Basically the fact that the main character Cameron decides to trust the complete stranger (Lewis) almost immediately and goes with him to a secret place full of other mind readers; for someone with her power she seems terribly naive and it gets annoying as the story goes on. I wasn't completely convinced by the plot either; some of it just didn't seem credible. That said, it was still entertaining enough for me to probably get a copy of the sequel some time in the future. Recommended if you enjoy reading YA paranormal romance stories.

Cameron has a secret she has been trying to hide for a long time: she can read minds. Her father died years ago and her mother dumped her to live with her grandmother. She is desperate to protect Cameron and makes sure Cameron hides her power to keep her safe. If she doesn't, the people who are looking for Cameron will find and harm her... But as she meets the mysterous Lewis, Cameron is not so sure she can believe her grandmother anymore. It turns out they are not the only ones out there that can read minds... And Lewis is offering her a way to embrace her hidden talents and meet others like her. But is he really who he claims to be and what are is true intentions? Who can Cameron really trust?

The Mind Readers is a great choice if you are looking for something quick, easy and entertaining. It's not exactly perfect and some parts lack credibility, but overall it's quite enjoyable if you like the whole YA paranormal romance genre. This first book of the series is still available for free for Amazon kindle in case you are interested, and the rest of the series can be purchased cheaply as well.

AHH. This was so good. It reminded me why I used to love free Amazon e-books. (Not enough to start downloading them again, but still.)
The characters, the plot, the writing...I don't think I have a bad thing to say about it. All I can do is gush. And gush I will, starting with the AMAZING plot this book contained. (Are you ready....okay, here I go.) FANTASTIC! Paranormal Romances are usually so romance orientated that I just want to bang my head against a desk. I don't have anything against romance...but Pararomances are so CHEESY and predictable. This one really wasn't. I will now list reasons the Mind Readers romance didn't irk me.
1.) Lewis isn't 'the perfect boyfriend.' He is flawed, though he may not seem that way.
2.) I didn't have to suffer through endless dialogue of Cam and Lewis confessing their feelings for each other.
3.) The plot wasn't overly dependent on the romance. I sometimes love a Romance heavy plot, but like I said before, if it becomes cheesy, that book has a good chance of being chucked across the room (though since I started reading e-books, those chances have gone down.) Mind Readers was one of the least throw-worthy Paranormals I've read in a loooooooooong time. I appreciate that, Ms. Brighton. I really do.
I've been so focused on saying what the plot wasn't that I have forgotten to praise what it was. I would just say awesome, but that would hardly be descriptive. Anyway, I loved that it was a mystery. Who should Cam trust? Was there something more behind the murder of her friend? I eat this kind of stuff up, people.
Cam...I love that she wasn't a Mary Sue. No, she had her fair share of flaws. Like being overly trusting. And the fact that she struggles with how to use her powers; should she use them for good and possibly be caught, or ignore them and let innocent people possibly get hurt?
Lewis. My gosh, I've never loved and then hated a character so quickly. Lewis ends up being an...interesting character to say the least. Let's just say I am pretty sure there will be a love triangle next book, and I will NOT be Team Lewis.
This is a great book! You have got to read it.

I would give it 10 stars if I could. It really was a page turner for me! I have seen plenty of reviews where people moan about characters annoying them, about wanting to "kill" Cameron- lads, this is what makes a good book- it will open up all sorts of emotions you have not just love and lust. But annoyance, also! Again- a true page turner with unexpected twists :)
The Mind Readers is cliche, somewhat boring, and kind of lifeless YA at it's most below average.
I wanted to like this story.. a girl who can read minds and gets whisked away to an encampment of others like her, but unfortunately it never took off. I found myself almost just abandoning it more then once, but I trudged through just to see if it got any better. It didn't. It was just entirely missing a spark for the entire length of it. I pretty much had to skim just to make it through.
Yes there are hot guys and people who are special, but it all is presented in a way that you dont care and can't even remember who looks like what.
I know others liked this and felt it was good for a free, indie ebook. I unfortunately did not fall into that category. This has follow ups, and I won't be caring enough to download them. This is one of those books with great intentions that just suffers from boring, boring, boring characters and plot and story.
It wasn't totally unreadable which saved it from being a 1 star, but it wasn't average enough to really get 3 stars because I know I won't be continuing on with the series. I would have maybe gave it 3 if I'd felt more like doing that, but I just can't.
Skip this one guys, there is much better stuff out there, even as far as free fare goes.

This was a disappointing read. It was all a bit unrealistic, and there were many plot holes and unanswered questions, although I suppose I would get some answers if I read the rest of the series. Don't think I will though, I am perfectly happy to never go into that world again.
So I'm glad that's done!
I'm pretty sure the only good part of this whole book was about the last paragraph.
Slow, unrealistic (even for a fantasy) and poor writing style.
I wish something were more descriptive, some less. The characters were not relatable and the conversations were unrealistic. I feel like the majority of the book was set up for another book. Like no questions were answered it was just a book supposed to get you hooked so you'd spend money and buy the rest of the series.
Thankfully, this one was free.
This book read a lot like "Cursed" which I just read and also didn't enjoy so maybe if you likes that you'll like this. But it was definitely not for me and I'm glad it's over.

this story is really amazing. I wasn't able to stop reading this because I was wishing to know what happened next?
the characters are amazing, i loved it. and this book is probably must read.

Not what I expected
I don't know what I expected when I read this book, but this wasn't it. I was surprised when I read it, the storyline is not a bad storyline and the writing is not bad either. So I must say I was surprised, I am not sure I will keep up with the series but it did intrigued me. This is a story I might read again if I wanted something to read. It had its ups and downs in the story and a bit of drama not a huge amount it mostly had you thinking what is this girl thinking. Once you get to the end it all makes since.
