This dang graphic novel had me sobbing, to be honest. I loved it so much. It was so raw and real and I just loved it.

Cheer Up! Love and Pom Poms was a cute and quick read.
I loved the fat and queer representation.
I feel like it could have been longer and used a bit more development. For example, we’re told that Annie and Beebee stopped being friends but it’s never revealed why they fell out of contact. I also would’ve liked to see more scenes of Annie hanging out with Katrina and the rest of the team on page.

The book could have been twice the length and it would have been better. The short length made the plot feel rushed and the characters feel underdeveloped.

Annie is a rude and grumpy cis girl. She joins the cheerleading team so she can learn to get along with people. The captain is her friend Beatrice (Bebe). Bebe is sweet, shy and friendly, and she smiles more since transitioning. Annie has a crush on Bebe, and while Bebe isn't sure of her sexuality, she knows she likes Annie. This is such a sweet and wholesome sapphic romance comic. I love it so much. Bebe and Annie are so adorable together. I borrowed this comic from the library, but I'm likely gonna buy a copy to own someday.

This was such a sweet, fun and quick read. But underneath all of that it had an important message: that we shouldn’t have to be afraid to be our true selves.
A graphic novel about two people falling in love, acceptance and learning to love and stand up for yourself. But while it had all of this is also delves into the reality that even when others may think they’re saying the right things it can still be hurtful.
The characters here had depth to them even for such a short story. They had personality and there was a good representation of grumpy x sunshine—which just so happens to be one of my favourite tropes, so that was very much enjoyed. Plus, I liked the growth of the dad, at first he came across as somewhat overprotective but also maybe like he was trying to limit his daughter mostly out of fear; but he was then able to see that wasn’t what was best and there was a change in his mindset.
However, while this was mostly a positive coming-of-age story, it did demonstrate insensitive moments of transphobia: so read with caution.
