A marriage counselor juggles being pursued by big pharma and getting lied to by clients.

This book had me in a chokehold! I couldn’t put it down and was trying to put the pieces together myself. I couldn’t connect the dots until they were revealed to me and it kept me guessing the whole time. I was suspicious of every single character.

Okay, OKAY, OKAYYYYY

So, I’m only rating 4/5 because I didn’t like the way they tied up Avery’s Acelia story. I think it was kind of cheap to just “Oh lol so basically your client (who you murdered) his dad was behind a lot of it.” I will say that I’m really glad she finally got to grieve Paul, even though she did essentially assisted suicide him (I can’t say I’d want to keep living in that condition either so I can see why it happened the way it did).

But oh my GOD I was not expecting Matthew to be fully unhinged. I thought he was just having an affair, not PLOTTING HIS WIFES MURDER. Jesussssssss.

Marissa was really annoying though, I stand by that. She didn’t deserve to DIE over it though, and I’m glad she survived.

Poor Bennett bro, that sweet little angel and his insane in the membrane parents…

Skip was about to be public enemy #1 but somehow in all of this I’ve come to tolerate, if not like him, a little.

And Polly was annoying, still didn’t like her.

But overall this is a really riveting read. I couldn’t put it down, and even when Marissa and Matthew seemed boring, Avery was carrying the story on her back and I was at full attention. Very good book, just needed to flesh out Avery’s situation better.

This is fast paced read about Marissa and Matthew Bishop, an outwardly perfect couple. Marissa has been unfaithful in her marriage. She seeks counseling from AveryChambers, a controversial therapist that has lost her license due to unethical practices but continues working as a consultant. Avery promises she will fix her clients in only 10 sessions and has been extremely successful in fulfilling that promise. What begins as a couple dealing with an unfaithful indiscretion ends up revealing many long held secrets in a twist that takes the reader in an unexpected direction.

I was more interested in the marriage mystery than the pharmaceutical one, though neither was particularly mysterious. The characters were likable enough that I was compelled to finish the book, though. Romeo is definitely the favorite 🐶

2.5 Honestly this book did not do anything for me. Although I liked the shifting perspectives, the story was slow and the ending was predictable.
