What a unique book. Jane Austen's Bookshelf was both really entertaining to read and useful for my Masters dissertation. I loved how the book was arranged and that each chapter was spliced with Romney's knowledge of book collecting.
I'm in such a Jane Austen mood at the moment so reading this after finishing watching Miss Austen was just what I was craving.

I had hoped this would delve more into the influences of the specific books and stories Jane read. It touches upon this, but most of the time in this book is spent on very thorough biographies of the women who wrote them.

I devoured this. This was thoroughly researched and delightfully balanced with biography and personal memoir. Cannot recommend this enough, especially to all the English majors out there, current or past!

Enjoyable mix of memoir and literary biography.

After finishing the first two chapters, I realized I wasn’t in the mood for this right now. It’s a cool concept and I liked the info, I think I’ll come back to it. It was due at the library so I needed to return it.
