Most of this book is sad. I think I kept reading because I wanted to see the light at the end of the tunnel for our dear Alice Hart. The further I got into the book though, the more I was drawn to learning about the different florals/fauna that are introduced. I love the idea that every flower carries a meaning, and that we can gift someone just a single flower to explain a thought or feeling.

Mostly though, I appreciate Holly Ringland's in depth research of our native floral, acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land and working with the Indigenous community to incorporate their history into the book. It's inspiring to see an author's hard work come through.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart was very well written, conveyed so much emotion and I think will remain memorable with me as it posed a lot to think about.

Secrets, abuse, betrayal, family history and the patterns were almost destined to repeat.
I think I cried my way through most of this book and I cannot wait to see the tv show based on the book.

This book started out intense and heartbreaking, but everything about it had me hooked.
I understood the strong connection and meanings behind inanimate things and latching onto those meanings and feeling them in your blood.
I understood every decision that every character made and why; I could feel their hurt and their pain.
I also appreciated the imagery of Australia. I could see exactly what the places looked like, hear all the voices, and see all the faces. I could see characters struggle because they cannot put into words what they are thinking or feeling.
I felt heartbreak with the main character; I cried with her, I was angry for her, and I would fight alongside her.
Safe to say this book had a healing effect on me that I needed.

If I could give 10 stars for this book I would. Beautifully written it is poignant, heart wrenching, sad, hopeful and so many more adjectives could be used. A book I found hard to put down yet I didn’t want it to finish. The descriptions of the Australian landscapes are extremely evocative and the reader is transported to the area described

Dealing with the generational repercussions of domestic violence it is insightful yet the ending shows that through counselling there can be hope and happy outcomes.
