Cant do it. Got to the part where Dylan turned into her father and she's rationalizing it and I just cant. I literally almost threw up listening to "well it's true, he didn't hit me". Nope, just choked you so hard you're hoarse and kicked the dog.

The story was decent enough that I read it to the end. But it was also overly sentimental, full of flower metaphors that made me cringe. I didn't connect well with the characters and the depth just wasn't there in a novel spanning several decades. The motivation of some characters was hard to understand and I thought there would be a deeper exploration of the backstory of some of the minor characters that just never happened. In the end I couldn't wait to finish it to read something better

This book is beautiful, the illustrations throughout are wonderful and I found the insight into the native Australian flowers fascinating.
