Loved it!! A wonderful, sad but hopeful story of Alice Hart and the flowers that represented her life. It gives such a stunning glimpse of the Australian landscape, coast and desert. I loved how each chapter started with some information about a particular Australian wildflower. #ozfiction

Just finished The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. It was beautiful and really engaging for the first half- the second half was far less interesting- did not like where the plot went and it felt unbelievable too. But worth it for the very magical first half.

Beautifully written. Poetic, with hard themes through the whole book.
Alice is a champion. So you champion her all the way.
Spoken with the language of the flowers.

Thank you to Pan MacMillan South Africa for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
“‘After my dad died I did this to make myself feel better.’ Oggi wrapped his arms around his knees. ‘I told myself, anything inside the circle is safe from sadness. I’d make the circle as big or as little as I’d like. Once when Mum wouldn’t stop crying I made a circle around the whole house. Except I had to use all of the petals on her roses to do that, and she didn’t react the way I thought she would.’”
Here are the things I loved about this book:
The Title - I adore quirky and alluring titles; I mean, where did Alice's flowers go? Why are they lost? Did she add tracking to her order?
The Chapter Headings - A little diagram, the name and description/meaning of a different flower as the chapter heading is not only very cute but it also lends a sense of what's to come.
The Story - So beautiful, oh, my goodness. And atmospheric af.
The Setting - Australia, especially the outback, has majestic scenery and the colours are simply mesmerising. Although some locations in the book are fictional, the author brings the landscape to life in vivid, living colour and I'm living for it. Of course, I don't want to actually visit there because they have scorpions and snakes and spiders; the people killing kind, you know...
The Characters - So great; relatable, the kind that feels real enough to argue with.
Just Everything - This is a very well-put-together novel.
What I didn't like? I cried too much, too damn much!
I highly recommend this; prepare to have your heart shattered and put back together.

Look, this book is a lot. I found it hard to want to read it, the characters are not endearing people. I did love the description, the poetry, the way Ringland describes the Territory and it's people. But there was a jarringly cute element to a blue haired baker, the "flowers", and the abuse it described. Well written? I believe so. Enjoyable? Not for me.
I loved the imagery and the references to Australian wildflowers x
