didn’t expect to stay up late reading this, also didn’t expect to cry my eyes out. This book captivated me

A book about savoring relationships; fathers and daughters…and time travel

I liked it but I didn’t love it. Maybe would have liked it more if I wasn’t thinking about transitions and big choices so much in my own life

Sweet story about father and daughter. Great characters and a quick, enjoyable read.

In my 30s, I've grown a soft spot for adult child/parent stories. More and more, I think about how as teenagers, we were in such a rush to grow up that we hardly noticed our parents. Not only did they have their own hopes and dreams, but they too, were aging along with us on the walk of life.

Straub poignantly explores this central theme throughout This Time Tomorrow through a touching father/daughter relationship. I found the time travel interwoven throughout the novel to be quite charming and particularly significant for their relationship, and not at all trite.

ummm I’m ugly crying

Updated review:
Okay listen. Very rarely do I read books that get better the longer they go, but this is one of those. I had the unique experience with this book of not reading the summary before I read the actual book, which is my favorite way to experience books. I’m giving it four stars because for the entire ~first half~ I truly did not know what the point was. It’s pretty long before we get to the actual meat (which I felt presented us with some red herrings as to what the actual plot would be). There didn’t seem to be a major conflict for a while, and when she first went back in time I didn’t know what was at stake for her or what she really wanted or why she was there. I was bored. And frankly I didn’t care about the potential love interest.

But the second half is much better. I found it difficult to always suspend my sense of disbelief, but I’m a sucker for nostalgia and for dads, so this punched me right in the feels. How sweet. I thought this story would be about boys and love, and honestly I didn’t care, so the fact that it’s really about her love for her dad just really touched me. I ugly cried through the ending. Which means it’s only the second book this year out of 101 to make me ugly cry!

tl;dr I wish the lead-up to the time travel had been (much) shorter, I’m so glad this wasn’t a love story.

Tore through this book
I kept wanting to see what would happen next! I loved this one!

Really wonderful book.
