This book had good spicy scenes but I wasn't a fan of the characters, plot and writing, if I'm honest.
4.5 Stars.
Speechless. Hades was RUTHLESS. Persephone was definitely naïve. BUT CONOR!!!!!
Ok. On to the next!!!

Value-5 stars
I got the Kindle version free from Amazon. Although I will point out that the book is very short, under 200 pages.
Entertaining-5 stars
It held my attention so well I devoured it in a couple days.
Writing style-5 stars
This is the 1st book I've ever read by this author, and I fell in love with her style. She has mastered suspense and her descriptions were beautiful and unique. Normally, the repetitive wording and constant hyperbole would be off-putting, even annoying. But here, it works. It makes the prose more immersive, adds to the tension, and dials up the emotion. I really felt like I was experiencing the events with Persephony.
Character development-3 stars
Persephone and Hades both felt real and complex, but I must admit, I didn't care for Persephone at all. She was whiny and weak, and she never learned from her mistakes or took her future into her own hands, despite the fact that she'd been claiming to want to do that since the very beginning of the book. It was the whole reason she ran away from her mother's farm!
I liked Hades more, but not entirely. I wish there had been more of a glimpse of his back story. Why is he like this? There were hints dropped about a deal he had with Demeter and about some health issue he has with light, and they were mentioned several times, but no details were ever added or clarified. It was just the same hint over and over, which got frustrating fast.
Plot-2 stars
This didn't feel like a complete book. It felt like a cut at the climax. I understand wanting to draw readers into the next book, but I have to admit, I hate this new trend of not giving books an ending to serve a series. It's annoying and screams desperation. Finish the damn book! And let your story and characters draw people back for more!
Adult content-3 stars
Some of the intimate scenes were a bit on the rapey side for my taste, so buyer beware.

King of Shadows is the first book that I have read by this author and is the first book in this series. Because at the end of this book is a huge cliffie! The kind that says OH NO, WHAT the you know what!
This story is a bit dark for those that don’t like that kind of book.
This is the modern day myth re-telling of Persephone and Hades.
King of Shadows is Luther Hades and Persephone’s story. Persephone has been very sheltered and kept hidden away by her mother Demeter except for a short time at a private school.
Her mother has warned her of bad people and the bad things that could happen if she ever left home.
Persephone has been so sheltered that she just wants to move out on her own. She wants her “freedom”. When she acts on getting her freedom she finds she walks right into a trap and into Hades arms.
Wow now get ready for a sizzling hot story between Hades and Persephone!
Summer Queen will be out sometime this Spring and I will be in a virtual line waiting for it!

Holy shit balls! First of all… I love a Hades and Persephone trope and there’s very few I don’t like… HOWEVER, this one knocked it out of the park! I can’t wait to read Summer Queen!!
