4.1 AVERAGE

My boys are okay

I fel like the idea was present but the execution just didn't hit the mark for me. it's a lovely read, don't get me wrong I just was not moved by the ending.

I have finally made it to the rewriting of my review of this book.

This book wrecked me, much like the second book, only much, much worse. It was like over the month-long break I had in between reading these last two, a wound had been in the process of being healed, but within the first few chapters, it was like someone had yanked out my stitches and stabbed me in the exact same spot. I thought I knew the extent of how much I could cry over a book after Wayward Son, but I severely underestimated how much salt my eyes could eject.

And then I was slowly brought back to life. But instead of stitches, I drank a healing potion and read some of the best fluff I have ever read in a book (and the communication!!!!! aghhhh!!!!).

Anyway, I absolutely love this book, and seeing as I've already reread it like five times, it's definitely something I'll read again (again).

This was SO much better than Wayward Son. The characters had a much better chance to develop and continue their story arcs, but I'm wondering...is this supposed to be the FINAL Simon Snow installation? Because there are definitely some things that need to be wrapped up and haven't been.

Compared to Wayward Son (because it's hard not to), there was MUCH better romantic tension and development. I couldn't handle the last book of only angst and I'm glad this provided some resolution.

I'd love to read another book (or an extended ending?) focused on Simon's character specifically. Baz, Penelope, Agatha, and even Shepherd were given the chance to tie up loose ends, but Simon is still without direction and a solution to many of his issues. It's a LOT to draw assumptions on as a reader.

I enjoyed every part about this book. I was SO HAPPY the story returned to shared love and intimate moments. All I could FEEL was love pouring out of this book, and that wasn’t even the plot because this is a fantasy/adventure series. I’m not amazing at reviews but it was what my heart wanted.

P.s. I am a bit mad about the epilogue because it was less than 1 page and only talked about 1 character. Made me sad to think there was a future with all the characters we were going to see, but then nothing. Still lived this book tho!

i knew that the moment i got my hands on my copy that i’d steam right through it and i did. the book was paced so well that i didn’t even realise how much i’d read every time i’d pick it up. the start was full of angst and banter and i was just swinging between crying and laughing for the first 30-40%. i got what i wanted and even a bit more in this book which is why i gave it 5 stars but i did feel a bit miffed right as i finished it.

SPOILER FILLED SECTION:
i do feel as though the ending was a bit a rushed and i wish we got to see more of niamh as well as her relationship with agatha, i felt like it was cut too short and i wish the book was set over a longer period of time kind of like the first book maybe. i do also feel as though the reveal of simon’s parentage was a bit rushed. like i understand that we’ve known since book one but he ends up finding out in the last 2/3 chapter and then acts normal and i guess some might react like that but the change between him realising that he’s killed his actual father to them eating dinner gave me whiplash if i’m being honest. i feel as though we could’ve had a better explanation to what happened with the antagonist of the book even if it was just brief, and maybe got to see simon, baz, penny, shephard, agatha and niamh after the main events of the book but there’s always the chance of a novella(but i seriously doubt it would happen).

i have a love/hate relationship with this book i literally dont know how to rate it so i wont. i mean its so different snd so many parallels are different but i also loved it selfishly for the characters. they deserve a better author aka me xx
ANYWAYS moving on to spoilers!

honestly fuck you rr bc agatha and simon NEVER DID ANYTHING it literally doesnt match the parallel in carry on? that nobody kissed simon on any other places except his mouth?? AND the revelation of simon’s parents shouldve had much more pages and angst and shouldve been done EARLIER in the book and in another respectful way tho im kinda grateful simon has his own sword? and honestly that epilogue was shit i mean good for lesbian goatherd agatha but ONE PARAGRAPH?? and the break up. GOD THE BREAK UP why was it so SHORT?? it deserved more pages and angst and stuff. they should’ve talked about everything that happened in america bc literally what was the point of wayward son hmm??? i have SO MANY discriminations about how so many questions were unanswered for us AND the CHARACTERS!! but the snowbaz domesticity is

was slightly better than the previous book but still, didnt really enjoy it. i liked the new “chosen one” thing but eh, it landed a bit flat with me i guess.
