What is it with this author’s new fixation with Daddies?
Not really my thing at all. This could have been so good if it hadn’t focused so much on the Daddy aspect. And it was almost complete insta love. And not a believable one.
If the next book is another story about a Daddy and his little boy I might give up on this series altogether.

I didn’t give this book a star rating because I don’t know that I could be fair. I have so many issues with this story I’m not sure where to begin.

I haven’t read the authors’ other two series from which this is a spin-off. I only discovered this after reading a couple of reviews because I was terribly confused regarding all the characters (I never read reviews before starting a book). Without having read any of the other books, I was lost when it came to all the characters. The author assumed reading this book after reading the previous two series which was a bit frustrating since this is touted as a standalone. There was not enough explanation about the characters and it was confusing to try to keep up with them. There was way too much history with all these characters and this town to make sense to a first time reader. And forget about keeping up with the couple of characters that were mentioned only a couple of times. I still don't know who they are or what they mean to these people.

The writing was hard to get used to and I had to read passages several times to totally grasp what was happening. The story felt very rushed, especially the ending.

There was so much going on with all the characters and their apparent D/s relationships I’m guessing was learned in the previous books because none of the groundwork was laid for any of that in this book. There was too much the author assumed is known by the reader and for someone just diving into this world for the first time my head was spinning.

After two weeks of Livingston protecting Fielding, Livingston was already referring to Fielding as ‘his boy’. Fielding responded to Livingston with ‘sir’ from the beginning, which I first thought was due to Livingston being his older bodyguard but turns out was Fielding automatically being his submissive. I can make my own assumptions on Livingston’s need for control and dominance but we learn next to nothing about Fielding’s history and why he craves the submission.

Fielding went from being a virgin to being spanked, calling Livingston ‘daddy’, and having anal sex with Livingston. There was absolutely no discussion on whether Fielding was interested in being spanked, calling Livingston daddy or if he even wanted penetrative sex. I’m not sure how Fielding even knows about being in a D/s relationship since he claimed more than once to be sheltered, never allowed to be on his own and being completely inexperienced and naïve.

Fielding was almost forced to have oral sex with Livingston (Fielding’s first sexual experience btw) and Livingston was not gentle; and their size difference is significant. It was cruel instead of sensual or exciting.

The SECOND time they have penetrative sex Livingston fists Fielding. Did I mention their size difference is considerable?

This one is just me being nit picky – Livingston used the words y’all and ain’t – which living in Texas I’m used to. This was in California (which incidentally is where I was born and never heard those words until we moved to Texas). If it was mentioned Livingston was from the south I missed that. His vernacular didn’t work for me.

I have so many questions still after finishing the book. Who are ‘the Crews’? How did the Trenton security folks discover who the stalker was with no evidence left behind? How did the stalker know where to find Fielding? How were they possibly able to find the stalker with Fielding not realizing he was gone until two hours after Fielding was taken?

IF you’ve read all the other books leading up to this one, you may like this one. If you haven’t and really want to read this book, go back and read all the others leading up or you will be as lost as I was. I am done with this series and possibly this author.

Would have been 4 stars if there was just a little more depth to the characters. Fast fun read though.

I have some serious issues with this book.

Let's start with the fact that I don't like BDSM stories and rarely read such books. Even so, I do it from time to time and I even like some of them. But everything was wrong in this one.

I think I have to start with the characters. We have two very wounded men here (of course if we ignore the whole bunch of supporting characters, none of whom had a normal life). Both are struggling with some emotional problems which, according to me, cannot be solved overnight. Of course, it is romance novel and love must solve all problems, and I understand it, but I think that the whole story becomes a little shallow because of that. Fielding especially worries me.

Fielding is very lost in the beginning of the story, he doesn't know who he is. He is a bit colorless, he lacks character. I thought it is intentional and that over time he would start to discover himself and become a full-fledged hero. But this is not entirely the case. Instead, he enters into a relationship with Livingston in which Liv basically controls his life in the same way as his parents do. The only difference is that Fielding likes it now. Indeed, at the very end, Fielding begins to show a little character and even takes some steps to become independent but it is all mentioned like a meaningless afterthought.

That's why I'm worried about this whole thing with Daddy. When two men with such a twisted psyche and obvious problems with their fathers start such a game and for real, there is something worrying about it. I feel like Fielding did not fully spread his wings before he became someone else's property again. I don't think this is a healthy relationship for either of them.

I am also disappointed with the suspense. These guys are really just brainless muscles. Stalker is a hundred times smarter than them. He leads them all the time and does what he wants, and they can't do anything. They only make some really stupid mistakes. It's really frustrating.

I was expecting something completely different and I'm disappointed. Although there will probably be many people who will like this book. This is definitely not my thing. I don't plan to read more books in this series.

Oh dear. DNF’d this one too.

Obviously reality isn’t what you are looking for when you read these books, but I could not get on board with this romance.

I had a real issue with one of the MCs only being exposed only to exploitative and uncaring parents, before being locked up with the other MC and that’s all she wrote - HEA. It doesn’t seem like a good result for anyone.

No relationship development. Liv's character was developed while Fielding's character was not. Poor pacing. The ending was rushed and included off page actions by Fielding that didn't match his character. Spin off series and not standalone.

You've gotta love a book with a good fisting scene in it, I'm fairly sure that's a book reviewing rule right?

Well, lucky for me, I did love this book, even though I haven't read anything else from this author. It had moments of drama that perhaps were a little over the top, but it completely worked within the narrative.

More review tomorrow.

And it's tomorrow now so here's the rest (as I was falling asleep yesterday).

I thought this book was fab, it's not an overly complicated story and its done well. There's lots of other characters in it who have their own books which I've not read but there's enough info given for the reader to know what's going on.

Liv is a wonderful character, traumatic experiences and visible scarring have left him deeply isolated with only his friends providing any human interaction.
Fielding is naive and too young and inexperienced for Liv but he wants him just the same and the beautiful actor is more than willing to surrender and submit to his Daddy.

I will say this won't be for everyone, it's quite heavy on the Daddy/boy kink and some light BDSM but it absolutely fits the dynamic of the two men.
I hope Little gets his HEA and I want to know more about Horace & Freddie and why they live out in the woods!

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
