Another excellent collection of stories by David Sedaris.
I really liked the theme of this set and they all wove together really well around his eccentric family, their beach house, and his fitbit (among other things!).
His comedic timing in the audio version can't be beat so I would highly recommend doing the audiobook version if you want to read this.

It’s really 4.5 stars, only lost half a star because of a gross story about a lipoma. I looooove Sedaris; I read it with my jaw dropping bc because he is SHAMELESS; he divulges details about himself and his family that’s like the very essence of washing his dirty launder in public. Utterly fascinating.

Book 3: Calypso by David Sedaris
This was my first David Sedaris book, and I listened to the audio book version.
The work was a collection of stories ranging from the incredibly sad suicide of one of David's sisters to the hilarious use of curse words in various foreign languages. One minute you are upset by the telling of how David's family is coping with a death in the family, the next you are laughing out loud while others wonder what is wrong with you.
This might not have been a good first one of David's books to read first. I am open to trying another if one of you out there has a recommendation. This one was okay for me. My rating 3 ⭐.

I wanted to like this book more than I did, given that I’ve always liked David Sedaris’s comic, offbeat observations on life, liberty and the pursuit of self care. And while certain essays were beautiful, like the ones about his sister’s death, mother’s overdose and relationship with his father, others felt like they were just included to meet a word limit. Maybe reducing the quantity of essays and focusing on quality would work better.

This was my first Sedaris, and I'm ashamed that I never read him sooner! David's dry observations and perspective are a hoot. The chapter with feeding his tumor to a snapping turtle he was obsessed with - I could NOT. Had me absolutely rolling!
As was recommended to me, listening on audio is a must for Sedaris.
