This was SO funny. "I'm Still Standing" is my new favorite Sedaris story.
funny lighthearted relaxing slow-paced

Sedaris is always an enjoyable read, and here he's writing on another level. Several themes and plot lines weave through out the varied stories, and while the chapters still serve as vignettes, the whole book itself felt quite meditative and hearty. Yeah, I just described a book using a word I usually reserve for stew.

Likely David Sedaris’s most sobering and ‘bleak’ book regarding topics of aging, dying, politics, and regret, the trademark humor and insight make this one of his most profound works, imo.

Read like stand up comedy. Funny in some spots but wasn’t my kind of book.

Wonderful and right up there with [b:Naked|46254874|Naked|David Sedaris|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1560210025l/46254874._SY75_.jpg|2086690] as my favorites by Sedaris. This collection feels extremely cohesive despite covering a wide range of topics and tackles some serious subject matter, but there is always room for absurdity and humor. Sedaris' musings on his Fitbit are deeply relatable, I liked receiving more insight about his relationship with Hugh, and his quest to have a tumor removed to feed it to a snapping turtle is downright hysterical. At this point, I don't have a preference on whether to read or listen to Sedaris' books; I cherish his uniquely amusing narration, but reading allows me to fully appreciate the beauty of his writing.

I'd heard several of these stories before, in other books, but there were enough new bits to keep me going. However, though those new ones had wry humor, they were overwhelmingly sad. As Sedaris ages, his subject matter naturally gets more depressing, and sometimes it's just a lot to take. I still enjoy his storytelling, and I liked how many glimpses there were this time of Hugh.
