David Sedaris continues to be a great story-teller, although some of these tales from his life are darker, e.g., about his sister taking her own life, the impacts of his mother's alcoholism. But also laugh-out-loud moments. If I was reading rather than listening, I'm sure I would still hear them in his voice.

I love David Sedaris, and this perhaps one of his funniest books yet. I loved the essay about what people from other countries curse at each other during road rage, especially since I was listening during my unpleasant commute. I laughed the whole way through it.
This also is one of his more personal books. It is more family focused and never shies away from some of their more intimate moments. I feel like I know him, his parents, and siblings, warts and all, and love them despite it (just like he does.) Sedaris puts us up in a room at his Emerald Isle beach house (the Sea Section) and welcomes us to the dinner table. It’s lovely and intimate.

I made the same mistake I made with Me Talk Pretty One Day, reading this on a plane, entertaining and frightening my fellow travelers as I laughed and cried my way through it.

I had a hard time continuing to listen to the book due to the place I am in currently financially. I had a difficult time relating to the authors anecdotes about living in France, walking all day to increase step counts on the Fitbit, and buying beach homes. Nothing against David Sedaris… but it was just a little triggering for me at this stage in my life, would like to come back when I am out of grad school.
I laughed, I cried, I had many epiphanies, and I shall stop saying the word "awesome."

I thought Me Talk Pretty One Day was hilarious in high school, and I haven't read anything else of Sedaris's until now. I didn't find this one particularly funny; there was a few moments, but not nearly as many as I expected. Maybe I'm the wrong age or something, because this particular set of story-musings just wasn't nearly as funny or relatable.
