interjected, his temper strung taut by her proximity, her injuries, and the wild suggestion that he was ever going to let her out of his sight again.
As soon as I saw the JC Leyendecker cover art I was done for, but this book was delicious from top to bottom. I love a smitten hero and this story hit almost every note I could have wished for.
Even my pet peeves and genre pitfalls, which are probably hard to avoid and admittedly very fussy of me, were managed in ways where I felt like the author had her readers’ backs. The world, the politics, the moody alt SF, magic tech, and family relationships were so engaging.
I’ve got to come up for air (and sleep)but, POV: me omw to read an entire back catalogue

I didn't hate this by any means, I think my brain is just too tired for it right now.

I loved a lot about this book. It was beautiful and it was comforting.
This book felt really special. Often when I read about men that call themselves Alphas, it usually focuses on the need to take what is theirs. There often is not an emphasis on the need to protect, to belong to the other person. They rarely emphasize the need to be gentle and take care of the other. Teddy is a new breed.

Theodore Solbourne knelt at her feet, true, but Margot knew she would only ever use that power to love him bigger, better, with all she had.
Teddy and Margaret were so healthy in communication it made me swoon. When discussing issues they always heard the other person out, validated their feelings, and offered new perspectives. I really just appreciated their dynamic so much. One second they were sweet, the next spicy.
This book really brought the spice along with the wholesomeness.
“My fierce little healer,” he breathed, returning to pay special attention to her vulnerable throat, “who can bring the dead back to life with her soft little hands and make her sovereign beg for her soft little mouth. You have no idea how powerful you are.”
The story was great as well, I sucked it right up. I was constantly on my toes. I appreciated not expecting the Margret Goode's parentage reveal. It was both surprising and made total sense.
PS I also love the illustrations in the book a lot. I just love this book a lot.
