This was pretty good, although I didn't realize it was part of a series when I read it. And really it was great as a standalone, it didn't allude to prior books without explaining. I was really glad to read a crime novel for once that I DIDN'T see the twist coming a mile away. Very pleasant surprise, and very unexpected!

This year I'm doing a Reading Challenge; so I have 26 books with specific subjects that I need to read.
Book 19: A book with an one-word title
These books never fail to engage and impress!
Before I started this book I was in the beginning of a bad reading slump, but as always [a:Slaughter|12504|Karin Slaughter|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1202439539p2/12504.jpg] pulled me right out of it. Her writing style is so fluent and addictive, you just can't help but read and read and read.
In [b:Fallen|9635495|Fallen (Will Trent, #5)|Karin Slaughter|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1388240393s/9635495.jpg|14522855] we get a snippet of what Faith's life was about before she joined the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) and partnered up with Will.
I really like how [a:Slaughter|12504|Karin Slaughter|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1202439539p2/12504.jpg] keeps the main story flowing but still gives you such a thorough back ground on each character that you can almost say the book was a dedication to them. It just add that extras to make it so real that you almost believe you are reading a true story.
Although these books can be read as standalone stories I'm a sucker for the main characters and the relationships that develop between them, so I try and read them in order. Which made this book a favorite because Will finally stands up for himself, I love how he grows form book to book.
Actually I love how all the characters change and adapt.
I'm slowly running out of books for this series, which is kind of depressing.
I can't see my life without Will, Sara, Faith and Amanda in it.
Excellent addition to the series! I did not figure it out at all and loved all the characters!
4.5⭐️ I love Will Trent and this series! The fifth book focuses on Faith Mitchell and her family. Faith shows up at her mother's home to find a messy crime scene and her mother missing. Will Trent, Amanda Wagner, and Sara Linton are determined to find out out why she was taken and how to get her back. Like always, the characters in this story were complex and flawed. I particularly liked how it dived into the history and backstory of many characters.
If you love crime fiction and mystery, Karin Slaughter is a MUST!!

FALLEN is the third book in the "Georgia" series that combined the characters from Slaughter's "Grant County" and "Atlanta" series. In addition to combining the series, Slaughter has combined all the best elements of her writing to create a captivating, exciting crime novel.
I've always been a fan of Sara Linton. While she's a smart, beautiful woman, she's also awkward and quirky. She can't cook and she loves dogs. There are so many details about her character that draw the dimensions of a real person. Likewise, Will Trent, with his extremely unmasculine chihuahua, dysfunctional marriage and dyslexia, breaks all the stereotypes of the law enforcement hero. These are the kind of characters that make a story rich, that entice readers to engage with that story.
Second only to her characters is Slaughter's ability to tell a good story. The plot is action-packed with strong twists that add to the layers of complexity and keep the reader turning pages - or in my case they kept me listening to the audio. Bad things happen in Karin Slaughter's books; that's no secret, but her novels also drive the reader to seek justice for the characters.
The final element that is a definite stand-out in FALLEN, as all of Slaughter's novels before this, is the author's humor. She incorporates a dark, kind of dry humor that catches the reader off guard at times. It works to create Slaughter's signature style and adds to the enjoyment of the novels
