Detective Faith Mitchell finds herself in the middle of a crisis when her mother is kidnapped. Evelyn Mitchell was forced into early retirement after Will Trent found evidence that Mitchell and members of her team had committed acts of corruption. Now Will and Faith need to piece together the puzzle. Is the kidnapping revenge from drug cartels Evelyn burned? And what does Will's boss, Amanda, know that she's not saying about her best friend?
Gripping as always, this one was one of my least favorites, simply because it was too confusing: too many gangs, too many names to remember and too many rabbit holes. But I give the author a lot of credit for Will's slow, gradual transformation. When Will gets good news, it feels completely earned after struggling for so long with his demons.

via audiobook. It was good, just felt kind of crazy dude held such a MASSIVE grudge over being adopted by a loving family lol . Overall the whole reasoning at the end felt blown way out of proportion. Really liked the character development tho except Angie. I used to like her in the first book and obviously now she’s a psycho
This is my favorite Will Trent series so far. Between learning more about Amanda, and watching Will and Sara's relationship grow- I couldn't put the book down. There were so many dry, funny moments. Also? Angie is pure evil. That's all.

I thought this book was okay, though nothing special for a cop mystery.

Very strong beginning -- good plot. However, as the book progressed it was more and more like a soap opera than a good police procedural. Ended up being disappointed.
