Would have been 4 stars if the main character wasn’t the most insufferable person for the first 150/200 pages
I liked this book . It was a good teen summer romance.
Adorable romantic summer read. Elouise/Lou/Elle and her friends have worked at Magic Castle for the past two summers. Everyone in their small town also spent their childhood summers at the amusement park. On orientation day, Mr.P., the owner, announces that this will be the last summer. Elouise doesn’t want to lose the park like she lost her mom who walked out on her and her dad when she was only 9. She schemes to raise money to save the park at the same time she’s scheming to get closer to her crush, Nick, a diving pirate at the park who’s dating the Park Princess. But not everything is as it seems at the Magic Castle and one thing leads to another making a mess of everything. Elouise wanted this to be the best summer ever; now it feels like the worst.

Cute queer women YA rom-com type book. 3.5 stars
Not really my type of book--too much scheming involved & protagonist making some terrible decisions involving these schemes. That being said, I did enjoy it. There was good representation in terms of bi & lesbian female characters being totally normalized. And also sweet, kind men (both Nick & Lou's dad).
I would put it in a classroom library for mainstream students grades 8+. I wouldn't recommend it for ELLs (too long, for one).

I really couldn't like the main character Elouise, which makes it very hard to enjoy this book : she's manipulative, egoistic, childish and naïve. She's a horrible friend and I honestly can't get the ending, she's pretty easily forgiven and accepted but she hasn't changed much (she says she changed, but it came the couple next day with no proof of change).
The romance was close to non existant, and suddenly there's a: oh, I kissed them, thinking about that now I may be in love with them. No, please, no...
I'm only happy for the ending with Nick, he deserves a good friendship and not being lied to. And Elouise fiiiinally understood she has to stop her tantrum and accept reality for the park. That's the only noticable change from her.

I thought I was going to like this so much more than I did. I mean with a quirky name like "hot dog girl," shenanigans are bound to be afoot, right? Truth be told, I found Eloise to be incredibly annoying. She lowkey managed to have annoying little brother vibes the entire time. I do still think the cover is charming though.
