As a reader, you do not have to have the book this follow-up is based on--The Family Upstairs. But I have to say that I believe readers will find themselves bewildered throughout and lose much of the context of this much-anticipated sequel to Jewell's best-selling thriller. I would even say that revisiting the family that endured the great tragedy in the original brought me peace as a reader. Jewell did an excellent job with the dual-story that brings backstory to one of the more hideous characters. I do not advise anyone to read this blindly without reading the first book. Fantastic job, Lisa Jewell! This one was obviously for the fans!! Thank you! And thank you to Edelweiss for an advanced copy of this title.
