I wasn’t getting into the storyline. Felt like the book was aimed for an audience older than me.

The only thing that kept me going for so long was the Irish audiobook. What kind of librarian hushes an old man who was happily looking for books - and quietly looking until SHE started talking to him?! And what kind of librarian is cold and distant with the children gathered around her mobile book van? I just could not love these characters.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting with this book, but I was pleasantly surprised to find myself having fallen in love with the village of Lisbeg and the folks of the Balleyfinn peninsula. I enjoyed their journey of rediscovering community and fighting back against the machinations of government that seems to have forgotten they serve the local people.

2.5 stars, really.
I was hoping this book would be about the protagonist and her librarianship, about her job, what it entails and books and stuff she comes across when she works. It was more about her past life and relationships to characters I didn't particularly like (as far as I got in the book). The story fails to draw the reader in, making it a dull most of the time. That made me put it aside, not finishing it.

Too slow with too many characters, none of whom really interest me. I feel like this is just setting up a series focusing on several of the characters in turn and I just don’t want to go there.

Did not finish.
I’m three days into this book and have only made it in less than 150 pages. It’s so slow. The characters are barely likable. The main character somehow manages to come off as a victim yet a lot of people think she’s snooty.
If you add in her cranky mother and her awful ex husband, I’m not sure what I like here beyond the potential of the storyline.
I kept thinking something was going to happen to get the story going but after reading some other reviews, I think it might continue on at this leisurely pace.

I hate to leave a book unfinished but I’ve invested enough time in this one to know it’s not my personal taste.

It was fine and pleasant, but predictable and not for me. I don't need to read the rest of them.

There were some nice bits but overall this book wasn't nearly as charming as I was hoping. Not that it should be fast paced, but not a single thing happens for the first 150 pages, pushing the boundaries of this genre.

I'm obsessed. At first, I was kind of skeptical that I would enjoy it as much as I did because it's very different from the other books I've read, but I was wrong. The book is so character-driven, I don't relate to the main character at all, and there's not really anything 'exciting' happening, but I absolutely loved it! I got so extremely attached to every single character (except a specific two characters which I don't like for obvious reasons) and I wish there was a sequel so that I could check in on everyone and see how they're doing. It surprised me how much I enjoyed such a mundane and simple life plot because I would have expected it to be somewhat boring but boy oh boy was I wrong.
