3.5, almost 4: Light and fun, but we some surprising depth, plus a bonus free trip to Ireland đ
I'm gonna just go ahead and call this one. I listened to well over half on audio, but my check out expired and I can't really see going back to it, even though it has a)a librarian and b)western Ireland.
Hanna as the local librarian is a tough character. She is tough to like and while I wanted to be sympathetic to her plight, found it hard to cheer for her. She also doesn't really seem to like being a librarian, hates book groups and pretty much anyone else who tries to use the library.
Maybe this was just a case of wrong timing, but it is time for me to move on!

I enjoyed the rural Ireland setting but the book itself was a bit slow and there were a lot of characters to keep up with.
This isnât an enthralling series of events but more of a look into a community of people whose lives overlap in one way or another. The MC is Hanna, a fifty-ish librarian who is recently divorced and now living with her persnickety, widowed mother. I liked Hanna but because there are so many other characters, I didnât feel like I got to know her as well as I wanted to.
This would be a good book to read if you enjoy a slower pace and donât mind a lot of characters with their own storylines.
2.5/5 (rounded up to 3) âď¸ - I liked it for the most part.

This one kept coming up on my bookstagram and it sounded like a light, fun read for book lovers, which is exactly what it was. The Irish setting and medley of villagers were perfectly quaint and endearing. I loved getting to know them all. That said, it was sweet without being saccharine. No one was overly idealized and I liked that everything wasnât tied up with a neat little ribbon at the end. Itâs definitely set up for a potential sequel as well, and I hope there will be one. This was an enjoyably cosy, feel-good read.
At first I did not like this book, all the characters seemed cranky and annoying and grumpy. But I stuck with it, and gradually came to like them. The main character is a librarian, and in many ways she was the stereotypical, sourpuss librarian (as a former librarian, I HATE that).
The general plot is that the small seaside town in Ireland is economically depressed, with most youth leaving to find jobs elsewhere. The one council-funded amenity left to the town is the library. And then the librarian learns that the plans of the council are to fund development in two nearby towns, and close the library. This starts a process of the town pulling together to support each other, support the town, and fight the power.
Very enjoyable.

Love Ireland, libraries, community, small-town culture, home renovations, overlooking the sea... Not sure why this book wasn't a great fit for me.
I could not finish this book. I got about four pages in and could not stand the way it as written. The author takes too much time describing unimportant details, but at the same time provides very little background information as to the characters situation.
