This was meh. Narrator is acting- there is so much sex in this book and he acts out every moan, whimper, and pant. John promises his kids he'll pay for their school and spends so much time saying he has to follow through no matter what as if they aren't old enough to understand that 3 college tuitions is a ridiculous thing to expect of your parents especially continuing to grad school. This really bothered me on a personal level as a graduate student who has never expected my parents to foot the entire bill for any of my higher education.
I  appreciate Karen drawing the line and saying the kids are mature enough to understand and demanding John stop hiding behind the kids

John is constantly bringing up the "unrealness" of hooking up with Rick Pierce over and over until it becomes so annoying. The writing isn't the best- sometimes it's really crude and uninspired. I really enjoyed the pain play, especially  the wax play, and the enthusiastically consensual no prep anal sex but since we only got John's pov those inclusions weren't as satisfying as they would've been had we seen Rick's pov of those experiences.

I appreciate that the big climax where
they are found out isn't firing or retaliation but rather "keep Rick happy" which extends to sexual happiness. It was a nice twist that created its own drama and wasn't the usual climax.
. I also liked the nuance that developed about Marie the boss. John acknowledged that she has to be a hardass to be taken seriously by the jerk parenters of their architectural firm. I also liked the work friends John has especially, Tiegan.

Older guys can be kinky too (;

I *loved* the premise of this book when I saw it - a guy, bored at a meeting, sees that he's a kinky match to someone in the same room - someone who is a rich, important client. Better yet, the guy who's a more or less lowly modeler is the Dom, and the important client is the sub. Fun, fun!

These guys are both in their early/mid 40's, and they've been around the block enough to know what they want and need. They're a fantastic match from the start, and not only burn up the sheets (or wherever), but have a caring relationship that continues to deepen.

Where this fell apart for me a bit was the work drama. I'm not a big fan of angst, anyway, and I just didn't really care about workplace drama, even though it was the obvious choice of conflict, based on the premise.

That being said, they were super HOT together, and the story was well-written. Still a 4-star read for me.

Vanilla, vanilla, vanilla!
It was fine enough but I guess I though it would have been more « hardcore » because the BDSM was quite light.

Interesting premise - never really read anything with this particular trope so... To new experiences
