Franz Kafka's The Trial feels like an unfinished book, with many narrative threads that lead nowhere. Perhaps this is exactly the point Kafka wanted to make.
K. is placed in various situationsthat seem to lack the conclusions . Despite his successful career, his arrogance toward the trial, combined with the many attempts he makes to save himself (all ultimately unsuccessful) , reveal just how lost he truly is.
I found it a bit frustrating and strange thatthe reason for the trial is never revealed.

One of my favorite parts was the priest's story and the discussion surrounding it.
Another aspect I noticed throughout the book was the way women are portrayed. They often seem to be dismissed or objectified, and their roles lack depth.

Every time K speaks to a new character about the inner mechanisms of this world's judicial system, the reader gets another level of absurdity added.
Yet... if you've been paying any attention to modern judicial systems (Supreme Court justices, immigration law, etc.), each level also seems to add a sense of realism and poignancy.
Incredible story. Reminds me of A Modest Proposal. Now... where'd I put those orphans?

With all of the layers of translation, time, and amount finished it's difficult to really criticize this novel. There are some really great ideas and images in here, but it also feels distinctly unfinished because... it's distinctly unfinished.
