Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced review copy. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed The Monarchs! It's the sequel to The Ravens and concludes the duology, so if you haven't read book 1, go do that first. :) Seeing Scarlett and Vivi grow into their next adventure was so satisfying, and this story built upon everything I loved from book 1 while giving new and more advanced twists. I appreciated that the authors continued including the theme of sisterhood, while also exploring different ways of practicing sisterhood and who might be included/excluded depending on how one approaches it. I feel like it was a wonderful way to highlight the positives of sorority life, while also acknowledging the problems it can create and showing that people can always improve on the way things have been done in the past. I also enjoyed exploring more of the magic system the authors have built for this world. I'm excited to see what each author writes next, and I would definitely read more collaborations from them!

Buy, Borrow, or Bypass: I will probably buy a finished copy of The Monarchs for my collection at some point, as I own the first book. However, it isn't on my high priority list to purchase at the moment since I just read it and probably won't reread it in the near future. I enjoyed the duology enough to want to reread it at some point, though, so buying a copy will be a great option for me. :)

i thought one thing, i was wrong. i’m impressed

I loved this follow up on the ravens...
It's got sorority girls + witches?! I mean that just sounds amazing
It's super fast paced and easy to read.
The story isn't some crazy in depth plot but it's funny and creative and just good vibes
Such a fun time reading this book.

Kappa Rho Nu, the Ravens, are back to finish off the year on a good note. They vanquished the evil and fought one of their own. NOw they can coast there the remainder of the year or at least that's what they thought. But it looks like they may not be the only witches on campus. I knew going into this sequel that it was going to be heavy on the drama and not much else but it seems Morgan and Paige didn't want to dig any deeper with their characters. Everything in this turn depends wholly on the bonds made in the last.... which weren't that deep. I had hoped that the bond of sisterhood and toxicity of sororities would be explored but those topics were superficially touched on in preference for yes romance. There really was not any resolve in the arguments or valid complaints that were brought up. Instead falling on weak bonds in romance and focused more on the drama it brought. While it was entertaining to see the magic in a more whimsical way, I would have liked more depth and growth within the sisterhood. Also, the sorority is called ravens.... why are alumni called MONARCHS!?!?

3.5, rounded up.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. There were some fun twists and turns, and the ultimate focus on sisterhood was a relief in a world full of books where girls are bitchy to each other for no reason.

I have recommended this to a coupon of the new teens in my life. They’re at an age where reading about college girls is exciting, and I hope they’ll find this duology entertaining.

Scarlett feels like she has fulfilled her destiny. She is the Kappa Rho Nu president, just like her mother and older sister before her. She feels the added stress to watch over her sorority sisters, especially since the last president met an untimely death. Vivi is only a freshman and becoming a Kappa Rho Nu has taught her what it feels like to belong. Scarlett has just told Vivi she is to be the social chair and that added burden may be a little too much because there is a new darkness on Westerly’s campus. Will this be the end of the Kappa Rho Nu legacy?

The Monarchs is the second book in The Ravens duology. Usually, the second book in a series is a disappointment, but that is not true in this installment. I don’t know if it was because the character and world-building were already complete, but this story was spot on with everything a good escape read needs. I enjoyed all of the campus drama and loved how the storyline was finished. Sometimes it is hard to pull off a duology, but this one is worth the reading time.

So. This one felt a bit lukewarm.

As a previous sorority girl, I physically rolled my eyes plenty of times with the stereotypes that are leveled against sorority women..but I also found myself nodding along too. Very strange mix of feelings there.

Personally, I felt that this dragged on a bit longer than it had to. There were so many players, and not enough game board for everyone. Also..for the book to be called THE MONARCHS, they had like 10 minutes of screen time in the whole book.

Overall…I’m glad to see a conclusion to the series, even if it was a little slippery.
