What a thrilling conclusion to this witchy duology! This story picks up right where we left off with The Ravens and there's a whole lot more going on in this story. Desperate not to have history repeat itself, The Ravens are trying to restore balance to the magical world. Vivi has been appointed Social Chair and is now dating Scarlett's former boyfriend. But all is not well as new rivals come forth to challenge the Ravens. This was a solid read and was quite enjoyable. This book is dark and gritty and atmospheric and the story is nicely developed, creating a wonderful conclusion to this fabulously witchy tale!

Fantastic sequel to The Monarchs! The first book was wrapped up so nicely, I wasn't sure at all what to expect from this second one. Despite that, it completely delivered. There are more magical questions afoot for the Kappas, who are still trying to overcome their experience from the previous book, which happened only a semester prior in the timeline of the story. There's a lot more Vivi and Scarlett, both of whom are great, strong characters. Mystery, magic, and a bit of mayhem - all carefully disguised by the Kappa aesthetic!
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed The Ravens and was so excited going into The Monarchs to see how this story would end. I, for the most part, wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed this. I also enjoyed throughout the book the little nods to plots and their conclusions from The Ravens. It allowed me to stay up to date without having to go back and reread The Ravens before continuing The Monarchs. With higher stakes and more intense magic, The Monarchs really gives you a story sparkled with bada** witches, a sisterhood bond, and a thriller story that you can't wait to see what happens next!
While at times, I did find this a bit of a cluster of thoughts, it was still easy to read and follow along with. I liked that this is very campy and fun, but still serious and full of drama. It makes for such a compelling combination of a story that flows well and keeps you attached to the pages. I think there is a lot of intense scenes and the higher stakes make it a hard read to put down. Besides the few lulls and clustered thoughts, this was overall a well done book.
It's incredible that both Morgan and Paige can come together so seamlessly to build this cohesive, interesting story. If you love witchcraft, sisterhood bonds, and a mix of lighthearted fun and high stakes magic- I recommend jumping into this great duology!

I am so torn on this book, and a part of me thinks that this should have been a standalone!!
It relied on the bonds of the sisters, which if I was being honest were pretty non-existent.
Scarlett spent the entire book trying to ‘right’ the wrongs, in many ways losing her character.
Viví touches on the idea that she is outsider, since she was born with out a sliver spoon, and that is what allows the demon to use her, and it’s never explored more deeply.
To find out that Vivis family was the one that warned them, felt lazy and convenient.
Xavier’s character was the one I really enjoyed, and i annoyed with how it ended.
All in all, not the worst thing I read, that place in my heart is for one villain and his assistant, but I won’t be revisiting the world.
