This book was great, not for the thriller or the murder or the ending. But for the stories, themes, and reality of the relationship between the mother in law and daughter in law.

Lucy and her mother-in-law Diana have never been too close. Diana, an advocate for social justice and women's rights has recently been found dead with a suicide note. BUT, there are questions about some suspicious circumstances around her death. The book bounces back and forth from the past to the present and from Lucy's perspective to Diana's perspective. Secrets start to be revealed and we learn that things aren't all that they seem in this family.

This was a refreshing change from some of the other thrillers that I've read recently. It delved a bit more into family dynamics than thrillers often do. More thoughts later...

A really good solid domestic thriller that was gripping and compulsive. I’ll definitely read more from this author.

Losing her mother to cancer early in life Lucy was very excited to marry into Ollie’s family and envisioned a beautiful relationship with her mother-in-law Diana but her hopes were quickly dashed. Their relationship was polite at best. When Diana was found dead with a suicide note family secrets are revealed and things don't seem to add up. Was Diana really that evil person Lucy always assumed her to be or was there another side to the story ?

The Mother-in-law by Sally Hepworth told by two Pov’s alternates between the past and the present. A unique perspective with fascinating characters along with an entertaining plot makes it a thought provoking read that I would definitely recommend.

I would like to thank St. Martin’s Press & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.
