I love that if I have a long drive I can download a book and listen to it at 2x (thank you Mary for putting that idea in my head) and finish it in a day. It is so satisfying to know the end of a book so quickly! I am not a fast reader so I guess that's why it's a treat. This book unfolded in a nice back and forth between present and past. I always like when a story is told from the point of view of more than one character and in this book it makes the probably all too important fact that we shouldn't assume we know how someone else feels--we're all just different in how we express ourselves.

I enjoyed this book and how the characters grow and change. You can really see things from both perspectives, although the mother-in-law never comes off in the best light. I thought the ending was a little forced. Overall an enjoyable read.

I couldn't put this book down. Lucy and get mother-in-law, Diana, are always at odds with each other. It has gotten to the point of yelling at holidays, and even resulted in a shove that led to injury at one point, but with this book switching between their viewpoints, it becomes ready to see that most of it is a profound lack of ability to communicate. When Diana dies, and the police are wavering between suicide and murder, the reader is just as interested as the law in untangling the relationships and figuring out what has happened. I really enjoyed the redemption involved in the ending, and I highly recommend this book.

Family drama meets thriller. It explores the challenging, ever changing dynamics of a tough woman who is the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law who feels that she can never please her. It's told from alternate perspectives, so you get a multi-faceted look at the whole story and not just one character's flawed, one-sided view. It kind of reads like a whodunit at times but works best as a family drama.

Good writing, shows different women, the choices they make as women and mothers. Don't expect a full-on suspense novel like Gone Girl or something like that -- despite many events that take place, it reads more like straight fiction. And I thought it was an interesting, layered story. Good read!

There is a saying that money is the root of all evil which I think is the premise for this book. It started with such great potential. Diana (the mother in law) has an interesting back story. Unfortunately, however, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me and by the end my interest in the characters had completely waned.
