Ugh, Lowe is one of the biggest green flags I’ve ever read. Actually, scratch that, he’s the whole forest. The only thing that could have launched this book into the stratosphere would’ve been getting his POV! I mean, I could feel his yearning for Misery even through her perspective, but hearing it in his own voice would’ve made such a difference.
And Misery? Freaking amazing. I love how, despite being guarded and jaded from the way she’s been treated her whole life, she still shows up for the people she loves. The fact that she doesn’t shy away from adding more people to that inner circle, and how fiercely she loves with her whole heart!! UGGGHHH, I just adore her character.
Now, don’t even get me started on Lowe. This man is obsessed with Misery, but never in a domineering or creepy way. His first thought is always what’s best for her, what would make her happy. Honestly, this is the kind of man you’d want as a partner.
I also love how this book spins Vampyres and Werewolves. Ali Hazelwood really created her own lore here, and it works so well. I already know I’ll be picking up the next book the moment it comes out!

I'm so glad I read this book and so happy it was part of book club. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions and I loved the world and it took me back to my Wattpad days. Honestly would definitely reread this in future ❤️
I almost didn’t pick this up because of the reviews. People out here writing like they expected Lord of the Rings: Vampire Edition. Listen, this is not a heavy epic fantasy. This is vampires, werewolves, a marriage of convenience, and Ali Hazelwood’s signature brand of witty chaos.
And I loved every second.
Was the plot groundbreaking? No. Did I care? Also no. Because I was too busy giggling at the banter, enjoying the tension, and rooting for a vampire bride who has better comedic timing than half the comedians on Netflix.
It’s fun. It’s silly. It’s charming. It was the perfect break between my usual diet of gothic heartbreak and broody “everyone dies in the end” reads. Like taking a little vacation from despair to sip cocktails with vampires.
So if you’re scrolling reviews wondering whether to skip it—don’t. Read it for the joy of it. Sometimes you need a book that makes you grin instead of cry.

Listened to on Audiobook.
It was cute. A bit of a twist at the end that I can appreciate. I think it would have received a higher rating if I read the book where as the audio was the same narrator for all parts even though there was a two person cast. I don’t understand why the male narrator didn’t read for the MMC and only did the titles or random epilogue and headers of chapters.
It was spicy midway. I’d give it 3
