The first two books were easy enough reads that I didn’t mind the flaws in the book- but this being 600+ pages feels like a little more commitment and I can’t get past several things:
1. dialogue. takes you totally out of the story and feels misplaced
2. every story the book is compared to is just a book that a piece was taken from the create this montage of other books. Aelin being the secret heir and having a hidden name (tog) the new king not being legitimate and you being able to tell by his hair and his cruelty (GoT), i’m forgetting so many but they are there.
3. the pacing.
the first two are fun short reads! but it is not something I’ll commit more time to than that. DNF

What an amazing end to this trilogy!! You can really tell how much the author’s writing evolved from the first book in this final installment. Like the other books, it was addicting and impossible to put down, but there was a huge improvement in the storytelling, characters, and the way things connected together.
First of all, can I just say I am an absolute SUCKER for a good final battle scene and this book DELIVERED. It had me on the edge of my seat, crying, biting my nails, and shaking. There is nothing I hate more than when a final battle scene is short and anti-climactic, and this one was everything but that. That was truly one of the best final battle scenes I’ve read in a while and really scratched that epic romantasy itch.
And the romance in this series?? DELICIOUS. I wasn’t sold on it in the first book, but after this one, Lia and Jace will be living in my head rent free. The chemistry and love between them was EVERYTHING.
The side characters really shine in this series in that way that only a multi POV series can accomplish. I loved all of the side characters just as much as the main characters—the found family in this was just too good.
I think this final installment is what really made the series its own. It was a completely satisfying conclusion and I can’t wait to see what the author does in the future!

Favorite quotes:
-All that existed was the endless sky unfolding before us, and my queen.
-“I wish to be anything you need me to be, as long as it entails being at your side.”
-“There is not a moment, nor has there ever been one, where I have not loved you with every fiber of my being, even since the moment we met. I believe I had always known there was something about you that I wasn’t able to shake.
-You are everything to me. I vow to be your protector and shield, and any enemy that dares cross you will meet the edge of my blade—but that is, of course, if they don’t meet your own first.”
-They clawed their way to the throne through lies, manipulation, and deception. And now, I would take it all back by blade, blood, and flame.
I enjoyed this series from start to finish. It’s full of action, magical creatures, and a really sweet romance. The main character is a badass who actually makes good choices (most of the time) and doesn’t create needless drama. The side characters are funny and charming…and pet wolf + wyvern…need I say more?
While much of the story reads like a YA series (world-building and language isn’t overly complex or sophisticated), there is some spice in this series.
This series is a good fit for fans of the Legends of Thezmarr series.
