I’m sad that this wasn’t great. I was very excited for this. Lots of telling and not showing and was basically the movie script. Nothing new or extra and no extra insight into what the characters were thinking or précurseurs to the next movie (or like, hints- as far as I could tell) that weren’t in the movie. Plus, apparently BB-8 is a boy? I reject this. No gay notes either. Sad.
Really an engaging read. Recommend to any fans of the series, especially those who disliked the movie.
NERD ALERT! T-85 X-wing with cloaking device. NERD ALERT!
It probably isn't until the final third of the novel that I started to enjoy Fry's adaptation of the film. Little things like filling in the last-ditch speeder plan on Krait (take out the cables used to tug the canon) are what make novelizations of the films' enjoyable.
My only wish is that there was more of this throughout the novel. Much like all the other post OT novels in the Disney era, the opportunity to flesh out canon is rarely taken up for fear of stepping on the toes of the next movie. Ironically, this wasn't the case during the prequel movie period when you actually had the sense that writers were given ancillary characters and topics to fully flesh out.
It's a shame that Fry didn't really get the leash removed as he probably could have done an even better job filling in the blanks for hardcore fans.

"Ben Solo had sought to abandon everything he had been, even casting aside his name. But Luke sensed that Kylo Ren was just a shell around the same broken boy he had tried so hard to reach."
It's hard to sum up my thoughts about this book. I mean, it was okay? I loved The Last Jedi from the first time I saw it. Yes, it was definitely a flawed movie, but I enjoy watching it and it's still one of my favourite movies to curl up and watch. This was a solid novelisation, and it added to the movie in ways that were definitely needed. It just didn't blow me away or anything. I don't think I'll write a full review for this one, mostly because I don't have a lot to say. The Last Jedi novelisation was, unsurprisingly, exactly what it says on the tin. I'm glad I read this, as it expands a little on the backgrounds of some characters who were side-lined by the movie trilogy, but overall it was just fine. If you loved The Last Jedi, or you want to read more about TLJ characters, or you want to be overcome with strong Ben Solo feelings, then this is a must read.

Good companion piece to Cobalt Squadron, though not sure if you should read this first. Initially, yes, but it does end up summarizing the CS’s plot. Also, if you haven’t watched the movie, there are spoilers.
This book provides some great character and story insights that were lacking in the film. I loved getting more out of the Reylo interactions and finding out more about Luke and Leia’s thoughts on the past and current situations. Unfortunately I still think the Poe/Rose storyline could have been better.
The overall story aside, my biggest complaint with this book is the glaring editing mistakes. I saw several typos and grammatical errors, including almost a whole paragraph repeating itself. Coming from a major publication company, I’m kind of disappointed in the careless editing. I also thought some of the writing could have been improved with better editing as well, but to be fair, Jason Fry also had to work with what Rian Johnson gave him.
Definitely recommend picking this up if you want to find out more about the story and get “deleted” scenes.

The Last Jedi is one of my favourite of the Star Wars films, so I knew this would be a great book. I am happy I read this, and once again, it has proven me wrong about novelisations; they don't just summarise the film. So many small extra details will make the movie much better the next time I watch it.
However, as a Fin/Poe shipper, um, no. Rose, he is not that into you 🤷🏼♀️ But Luke explaining Rey as his niece, oh my goodness, so so poetic.

The Last Jedi 5⭐️❤️
The most recent of the Star Wars saga movies. This book is an expanded edition of the movie, so there was more detail, and right at the beginning with what I thought was Luke Skywalker and his wife. But no, that’s Jason Fry’s addition to the story of what he thinks Luke did while he was isolated on the island.
The women in this series is what impressed me the most! This is the second Star Wars book I read. I read Rogue One because I really liked how they made the women become such a stronger character than in the past movies. Star Wars The Force Awakens was good too. But The Last Jedi really awed me with so many awesome women... and other great characters too.
Princess Leia is no longer a princess but a General now, like my sister’s favorite quote “I've lived to see my childhood Princesses become generals” (Robin Wright from The Princess Bride to General Antiope in Wonder Woman, and now Leia). There is new characters too, Rose being one of my favorites.
I really enjoyed reading this novel and will be working on reading the other books in this saga (not including the movie stuff from the 90s which we need not even think of).

I enjoyed this very much! It captures the essence of the film and expands on it, great for any SW fan.
An entertaining movie with some really annoying parts makes for an entertaining book with some annoying parts.
