I really, really loved this story. It looses half a star for me because I think the "Mr. Rhodes" continues on way too long into the book and the protective element between the MC's feels over the top at times. But otherwise, it's just such a delightful read.

The tension that's built felt sooooo good. I read a review on another book the other day that said something to the effect of newer romance releases not recognizing the value of the slow burn, and then randomly ended up reading this amazing representation of the slow burn. There's still some payoff with steamy scenes, and while totally enjoyable, they are certainly not the highlight of the book. By the end of the story, I was rooting SO hard for the emotional element of the love story.

I love the tensions in the back end of the book.
I'm never a fan of third act breakups, and while there are fights and problems between the characters, it's not a third act breakup. There's no banging of my head against the wall wondering why people aren't communicating. It's just such a story of real love that's been deeply developed and is being cherished even in moments of conflict.

When Aurora decides it’s time to start over after a bad relationship,  she heads back to where she lived as a child.  Seeking out closeness  to her (missing ) mother , she plans to explore trails her mother had previously hiked, reconnect with nature and find an old friend. She rents an apartment above a garage and quickly discovers she’s not quite welcomed there. Navigating this grumpy landlord and these dangerous cliffs turn out to be quite challenging.

This is a slow burn but one in which I really enjoyed. She even develops her characters very slowly but  it’s worth sticking around for. Aurora’s personality varies greatly from her landlord, who is grumpy and closed off.  I really enjoyed how the landlords son Amos and Aurora connected through music.  Auroras determination and strength was remarkable, considering what she has had to deal with over the years.  When she starts working at a job she is not quite experienced for, she put in the work and extra effort to show up for her friend.

This book had me laughing out loud, brought some tears and a smile to my face. I very much enjoyed it, and look forward to continuing to read more by this author.

took me too long to get into this book. It dragged on a bit much in the beginning and i really don't see the need for it to be more than 600 pages long...it could have been 400 pages and i would've like it more. the writing also wasn't my fav but i really did enjoy the storyline and the characters were very well thought out. they felt unique and special and i cared about them. after the initial 200 or so pages i started getting into the story and being interested but there was a while where i wanted to dnf the book ngl. however, i am glad i didn't and decided to thug it out because it just got better with each page after that slumpy part at the start. i really loved Amos and Yuki and even Jackie too. the romance between rhodes and his angel was just adorable and i loved it so much. anyways the only reason why it was not 4.5 - 5 stars was the weird part at the beginning where it was just slow and i didn't know where this story was going or what the point of it even was plus the writing that was a bit weird for me a times but the plot and characters and everything else was very good.
