Ashley Poston is a champion at writing magical reaslism-meets-romance and does it again in The Seven Year Slip, about a woman who falls in love with her temporary roommate - who is actually living seven years in the past - only to reunite with him in her present life as well.

Edit:  I had to edit my review, because I originally rated this 4.75āļø but I have literally not stopped thinking about this book and my review since I finished it. I needed to make sure my review reflected that.

I think itā€™s safe to say that Ashley Poston is now an auto-buy author for me. I just adore how she writes her characters. Did I predict most of the stories twists and turns? Yes. But I still found this to be such a delight and so SO hard to put down.
Thereā€™s a little bit of the ā€˜thereā€™s only one bedā€™ trope. Thereā€™s a lot of timey-whimey discourse due to Clementineā€™s magical apartment that at random times can transport you through time by 7 years. I canā€™t talk too much about the plot of the book without getting into spoiler territory, just know that I was hooked and so so intrigued to see how the story panned out. If youā€™re intrigued by the synopsis, you wonā€™t be disappointed. I loved this so much, itā€™s hard to put into words.

If you enjoyed movies like About Time or the book/any of the adaptions of The Time Travellers Wife, I think this book would be up your alley. Also, if you enjoyed the Dead Romantics, youā€™ll be delighted to know this is set in the same universe (hello Benji Andor cameo and brief appearance of Florence as well)!!!

I genuinely wish I had a finished copy so I could see all of my annotations already because boy oh boy did I annotate my electronic copy so much lol
Catch me in line on release day trying to get a finished copy in my hands because I just ADORE this book so much.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary e-arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions in this review are my own.

I absolutely loved this book.
Often when you love a book so much (The Dead Romantics), you have that fear that the next book by the same author wonā€™t have that same magic as the last.

I had nothing to worry about!!! I adored the setting and the characters and the magic of it all. The serendipity and the way the story loops back on itself so neatly and satisfyingly.

I loved that as well as love/romance, itā€™s a story about time, aging, coming of self, adventure, friendship, choosing yourself and mental health.

I canā€™t wait to see what Poston writes next and Iā€™m sad Iā€™ve already finished this!

mark my words, this will be on my top 3 favorite books of the entire year!!! I loved it THAT much šŸ„¹šŸ„¹

after absolutely adoring every word of THE DEAD ROMANTICS, I was beyond ecstatic to get my hands on ashleyā€™s latest and greatest. THE SEVEN YEAR SLIP still has the magical realism elements that make her stories so unique and beautiful - but this time, itā€™s a magical apartment set in cozy uptown NYC!

clementine inherits her auntā€™s apartment after she suddenly passes, only to discover that the apartment is truly magic and shifts back in time when she least expects it. enter: iwan, an aspiring chef and renter of the apartment from seven years ago who has all of the right things to say to clementine šŸ„¹

the story itself was unlike anything Iā€™ve ever read before! it was creative, cute and fluffy, downright LOL moments, and seriously made my stomach growl with all of the delicious food references.

however, it was truly clementineā€™s journey with iwan that got to me. I was HERE for their undeniable chemistry, their cute af banter, and all of the twists life threw at both of them! my heart is completely split open for these two ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

and reader, I bawled my eyes out at the entire last 15% of this one.

this is definitely a relatable story for me, dealing with grief and feeling very lost in life, but it brought me so many smiles and virtual hugs. stories like this exist to remind readers like me that weā€™re never alone in this big strange unforgivable world šŸ’•

I cannot thank penguin random house and netgalley enough for virtually changing my life with this advanced copy!!! summer cannot come fast enough so I can get my hands on a physical copy!

rating: 5 stars (can it be 5 billion???)
wine pairing: knights valley cabernet sauvignon
