An empowering princess tale - one where the princess goes to great lengths to save the day, while the prince she thinks she wants to marry surprises her in the end. A must for girls!

This book is the best. Definitely my favourite Munsch book. I got to see him read it live as a kid and he is the best narrator of his own books. A female lead that doesn't need to be saved by a boy! Read to all the kids in your life for sure!
Cute story that reveals a strong, independent girl character. Excellent story to read with little girls.
I like in this book that the girl is the hero in the story but also a princess because it is hard to find that in many books. Girl are heroes too and we want our girls to be strong too.
A nice twist to the traditional 'terrible dragon' fairy tale. The Princess has to do the rescuing here, using brains not brawn to defeat the dragon and save her betrothed. A fun story sure to be enjoyed by children aged 6+ that could be a great conversation starter with older students on topics like gender norms, traditional vs modern expectations & values etc.
The version our library has is a 25th anniversary version.
The book tells from beginning to end how a children's book is made. There's brief biographies of the writer and the illustrator, and even the story of how they were brought together. Then there's the Paper Bag Princess story in the middle.
It's a great story! It was first published in 1980 when I was past reading children's books, so I'd never heard of it before, but apparently (according to the information after the story in this edition), it's beloved!
I love that people have turned it into plays, musicals, puppet shows, and so much more!

The original girl power book. I saw it and remembered it from when I was young and needed to read it to my own kids.
This is such a cute little children's story that can teach kids about appearances. Also, girls can do anything, including saving an ungrateful prince from a dragon.
