A frustrating read and not the good kind, unfortunately. The ideas within the book have potential but the structure and execution just left me confused. The positive is that there are many beautiful and tragic stories scattered throughout the book.
After loving two books by Solnit, I thought I'd try a third...and I hated it.
I'm still going to give her another try or two, because I think this book just didn't click for me. I gave up on it after a few essays because I just was not interested in what she was saying or how she was saying it.
I don't know. Whatever it is that worked so well for me before just did not work at all for me here.

Solnit is one of my favorite writers. I love that she references Cabeza De Vaca in this book.
Moments of brilliance but felt too personal to be relatable at times.
