If you like juicy gossip, you’re in for a treat. I got it on a whim and went into it without any expectations and that’s probably how it’s got to be done.

Told from many different perspectives, ‚bad summer people‘ tells the story of wealthy new yorkers spending their summer on fire island, a narrow and long strip of land right off the coast of long island.
I can see why many people would struggle with so many pov‘s but i loved it. I was hooked pretty much right away because everyone constantly contradicted each other and what you learned through one person turned out to not be true at all. Truly a testament towards there not being a universal truth but just everyones own version of reality.

It was such a rollercoaster of a ride and i enjoyed every minute of it. I was SO entertained.

All of the characters are horrible awful almost evil people who really deserve each other and putting them together on an island makes for a very entertaining book!

Ugh, I really didn’t enjoy this one. Every chapter was a different character’s viewpoint, which could have been interesting, but it all just felt super repetitive. The storyline was weak at best—mostly just a bunch of messy affairs and unhealthy relationships with no one to really root for.
It honestly felt like a B-list version of an Elin Hilderbrand book (and I love Elin), but without any of the charm, depth, or heart. I kept hoping it would redeem itself, but it never did.
The only thing I mildly liked was the Fire Island setting… but even that couldn’t save it for me. Total letdown.
