I've heard stories from a woman who had lived in Leningrad at that time, but this book really told the story of a city under siege. So amazing what people can do to survive.
Read the whole novel in one day, truly could not put it down. Loved every moment. Captured me from the beginning.

Dnf- 50%. It's well written but much more grim than I was expecting. Based on the synopsis, I thought it would be quirky, so the difference from my expectations had me avoiding it. It reminded me of books I would have read in school, well written but fairly depressing plot.

A great book from start to finish. It creates vivid images of what life was like in parts of Russia during WWII. With a great story to go along with it. I highly recommend it.

I am blown away by this book. I just turned the last page and I loved every single one. "City of Thieves" delves deep into what it means to be a human being. Not only does Benioff explore World War II in Russia (which is not often portrayed), it also touches in more common and human themes such as friendship, desire, love, patriotism and manhood.
It is heartwarming and heart wrenching, but a marvellous reading experience. I highly recommend it.
