Good, but kind of cheesy compared to the actual Divergent series

This is a solid companion book to Divergent, but it’s not perfect. I really like the prequels for Four transferring from Abnegation to Dauntless, getting to understand his childhood and fears, and finding out what drives him to become a trainer instead of a leader. The Divergent scenes were a bit boring for me though. It didn’t really feel like a different POV because we still didn’t get very many of Four’s inner thoughts - it was the same words, just with the ‘Is’ and ‘yous’ swapped from the original. Those scenes were short though, so it doesn’t bring my rating down a ton.

Aaron Stanford was fine as Four, though a bit monotone. Similar to Divergent with Shailene Woodley, I might just have Theo James’ voice ingrained in my head for the character, and anything else sounds off.

I REALLY enjoyed this. It was a good way to get to know Four much better. After reading Allegiant I thought that Four was a pansy and I didn't really like him in the the last book. But seeing his background and who he was before he was a part of Dauntless was very eye opening and interesting.

As a Divergent fan, it's really overwhelming to have a wider perspective on the life of Tobias about his experiences in Dauntless as well as his dark memories of childhood in the bitter past.

A really nice extra to the divergent series :)

Love the stories, but they were a bit disconected. I guess you can't get too deep with this because they're supposed to be short stories, but I felt as if they were too rushed maybe?

I love how Veronica writes though and I was really pleased to know more about Tobia's life before Divergent.

The last short story, however, was too difficult to read, knowing everything that happens in divergent with the attack to Abnegation but also knowing what happens at the end of Allegiant. PAINFUL.

After reading the Divergent series, it was great to read experiences from the view point of another character.
