This book packs so much feeling into the pages. It brought me to tears twice—I may never recover from

learning what Minerva was doing with all those old cans.

That moment encapsulated the book as a whole: bringing me to tears in a way that was not simply despair, despite the tragedy. 
There’s nothing I can compare this book to well, but it made me think of The Giver in many ways. This, however, was for a more mature audience. 
I was surprised to see such a happy ending, but I welcomed it.
