Interesting YA novel. Not a feel good story, most of it is just plain depressing, much of which because it isn't really far off of the horrors that many opressed peoples had to go through and are still going through.

I really enjoyed this book. The concept of the story is a fascinating one and my only complaint is that I wish the author told more about that story. Why their dreams were so powerful. How their dreams could provide cures. Instead the story was more about the main character Frenchie and his development into a young man, and falling in love while on the run. It was still a great story, but I feel like there was so much left unwritten about here. It almost felt like a missed opportunity to have learned more about the indigenous cultures at the heart of the story. But the love stories in this book felt very realistic and very touching. Despite it's missed opportunities, nevertheless, it still left me very anxious to read the sequel.
