My favorite thing about this book is the way Native American culture is seamlessly woven through the storytelling, even to the audiobook narrator.

This book is bleak and will make you cry but it's also a beautiful story and everybody should read it. I recommend the audiobook, there were moments of music that added to the feeling of the scene. I liked that there wasn't music throughout, only in a few key scenes. I loved all the characters and the ending was good. It helped make up for all the sadness the characters go through.

Terrific story! Should be required reading in school.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and ended up using it as a novel study with my grade 9 class. Cherie Dimaline does a great job weaving indigenous narrative with a modern and engaging plot.
