Great middle grade book without any junk in it. Wasn't my favorite book to read as an adult, but it did hold my attention and I know my kids will love it. I was happy to find a book for them without swearing, bad attitudes, and liberal agendas.

Such fun!

I loved this. It's completely delightful, sweet, and poignant, and it does what the titular circus itself aims to do: remind us of the magic in the world. I did guess correctly what was going to happen at the end, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable or satisfying. Bring on more books, Cassie Beasley.

As magical and engaging as "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern is for adults. The ending has a satisfying feel, but the door is left open for sequels.

Any mention of circus in a book and I'm sold. I don't care who the intended audience is or the genre. I want it. Which is what let to Circus Mirandus being a little disappointing for me. The majority of this book doesn't actually take place in the circus. HOWEVER, that didn't take away my enjoyment and it built up perfectly for a sequel. The book worked exactly the way it needed to - not as much circus as we'd probably expect or want but setting it up perfectly for what the sequel can bring - and it also touched on some important topics such as toxic family members (with an explanation as to why!!) as well as grief and it also had a great friendship.

This was fun and enjoyable but still very grounded in the real world with good messages and themes for kids to explore and I will definitely pick up more by Cassie Beasley.

(personal rating: 3 stars.
critical rating - if I were reading as a child not an adult: 4 stars)

This is a delightful, timeless story that will appeal widely to kids and adults alike. Beasley is a wonderful storyteller- loved the writing, loved the characters. Looking forward to her future works.

"Just because a magic is small doesn't mean it is unimportant," the Lightbender said. "Even the smallest magics can grow."
