The hype got me. I didn't love Aunt Gertrudis and Victoria's stereotypical evil characteristics.
4.5 stars
What a sweet story! This feels similar to The Night Circus, but for kids. Micah Tuttle's grandfather, Ephraim, has always told stories of the magical Circus Mirandus that he found when he was a young child. Ephraim was promised a miracle, and now at the end of his life, it's up to Micah to help him cash it in. This is full of whimsy, twists, and a of course magic.

Thanks to Edelweiss and Dial Books for early access to this title.
I quite enjoyed this magical book - not only does it deal with magic as a subject, but the writing and plot are quite magical as well. I found the characters to be intriguing and well-drawn, and the relationships were true. I particularly enjoyed the relationship between the grandfather and grandson. This book is a bit reminiscent of [b:The Night Circus|9361589|The Night Circus|Erin Morgenstern|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1387124618s/9361589.jpg|14245059] only aimed at a much younger audience. Very fun, and touching as well.

I adored this book! I want everyone to read it and think it is a fantastic magical book. Perfect for the 4th and 5th grade (probably 3rd grade) bunch. Would make a wonderful read aloud.
Loved this book! Awesome characters, wild setting, good twist in the end. YEAH!
Sort of a mixed bag for me, but the good parts are REALLY good. Also, the Lightbender is totally the Tenth Doctor, right?
This is a book that I'd heard so much about that I worried it would not live up to the hype. I would give it 4.5. Beasley sets up an imaginative world, and I really liked the characters of Micah, Ephraim, and Jenny (and detested Gertrude) "Chintzy" was one of my mom's favorite words; who knew it would be a bird? Things really picked up in the last hundred pages. I could see this as a read aloud, with many opportunities for prediction (although I can say, I wasn't surprised by the ending)
There are some larger, overarching messages in the book; selflessness, relationships. It would be interesting to ask students what would be in their Circus Mirandus.

This book will make you feel like a child again. It is like reading an imaginative child's dream. It is magic!
I loved this book. It's beautiful and magical. Reading it felt like going back to my childhooh, believing in magic, that everything was possible. I think more people, from all ages, should read it, because it has such an important message! I'll treasure this book forever.
