I remember watching the movie a few years ago and it is pretty faithful to the book. It’s very complex, dark, and sad seeing two characters who were put into the same dangerous position but reflecting and handling their trauma so differently. It was a good read for the complexity of the characters but definitely not for people who are uncomfortable with the topics as it does go into detail of some of the vile acts the adult has put them through when they were kids.

I don’t want to put this under the spoiler tag but there’s not really a typical happy ending- it is open ended but does end with the characters having some sort of closure but the beginning stages of it.

Certainly a hard read emotionally, but exactly what I needed. So often do we see trauma response shown in one type of way when there is no one type of healing.

i feel like there's nothing to say. as a work of character fiction it's incredible, it's so good. i guess the editing could have been better. i need to read it again but not for a while; it will be very hard to forget.
