Mysterious Skin by Scott Heim is one of the most hauntingly beautiful books I’ve ever read. It’s raw, heartbreaking, and unflinchingly honest, yet there’s so much beauty in the way the story is told. Heim’s writing is powerful and poetic. He handles incredibly difficult themes with care and depth. The two main characters are unforgettable, and their journeys stayed with me long after I finished the last page. This book broke my heart and moved me deeply. It’s not an easy read, but it’s an important and stunning one.

What a tragic, tragic story. Equally hopeful and horrific. I'd recommend this to everyone.

“It was a light that shone over our faces, our wounds and scars. It was a light so brilliant and white it could have been beamed from heaven, and Brian and I could have been angels, basking in it. But it wasn’t, and we weren’t.”

maybe the most cringe book i have ever read but not cringe in an internet point in laugh way, cringe in a this is a super heavy topic u naturally want to recoil from

written incredibly well and leaves u with a need to just Think About It once youre done. this book and the movie directed by Gregg Araki are both incredibly well made and if you felt one of them was worthwhile i strongly checking out the other. i finished the book in one setting and enjoyed (if u can call it that) every second of it

its just a super hollowing read. incredibly draining. could not recommend it more
