It sucks because I would have liked it more if any of the book was new to me, but pirates have become such a popular topic in media that even though this is the original, everything felt expected and contrived. Thanks for creating great tropes, there’s a reason why so much is iconic, but I wouldn’t recommend reading it now.

One of my favourite classic novels.

Although a book purely based around pirates seeking treasure wont be to everyone's liking it is one of my favourites. I really like the style of writing and the beginning of the book at the Admiral Benbow Inn is a strong start and a great set up.

Once they get to the Island I don't feel the story is as strong as the start as we don't see most of the Island and what it may offer. Its quite a quick part of the book which could have been developed a little more so we have more exploring and surprises. Having said that, it still remains a great adventure novel, one that most people know even if they haven't physically read the book.

I can see why this is my best friend's favourite book - quite iconic.

I was reading it with my kid and he was over it. I didn’t really love it either.
