I enjoyed most of the book. I would have liked this book more if not for the very last lines. I get Jakob being glad the attackers left, and that his people are at peace with the Tevarans. However, it seems to suggest he’s also happy about Wold’s death. Wold was a very flawed man, but he was still Rolery’s father. Maybe I’m misinterpreting this part, but it rubbed me the wrong way.

A strong 3 stars (probably 3.5?). Planet of Exile continues The Hainish Cycle's theme of focusing on an outsider on an unknown planet.

I wonder if George R. R. Martin has read this book? The plot seemed strangely akin to Jon Snow's story from A Song of Ice and Fire, complete with an approaching decades-long winter, a united army of wildlings, and a forbidden love story.

This is a great example of how an author can make a moral point in their books without beating the reader over the head with the point. I've read the books in this series out of order, which they don't need to be read in order as they are all standalone books, but this is my favorite of the series so far.
