The Next Right Thing: A Simple, Soulful Practice for Making Life Decisions
Emily P. Freeman
Emily P. Freeman speaks to my soul! I’ve been listening to “The Next Right Thing” podcast for the last 4 months or so and it has brought so much wisdom and peace! When she says that she is trying to make “space for your soul to breathe” she isn’t lying! Now, much of the wisdom that is found in the first 30 some episodes of the podcast can be found in the chapters of this book.
If you’ve listened to the podcast, reading the book has a familiar, almost deja vu feel to it. Things I had heard before came back with even more clarity while reading it and there are new nuggets of wisdom to glean that I didn’t catch when I listened.
Do you struggle with decision fatigue on any level? If so, this book (and the podcast) will help you focus on just taking the next step and doing the next right thing!

Had this book for about a year and it just felt like the right time to pick it up. Thankful for Emily’s practicality and the spiritual practices she provides. A book full of wisdom and I learned so much
All of Emily Freeman’s previous books have changed my life and The Next Right thing is no exception. At minimum, it feels a though Emily is sitting next to you, encouraging you with kind workings and helping you to feel seen and known. And yet— this book also holds within its pages the power to help you determine and take action on your next right thing, not your friends next right thing— but your own. You will not regret reading this book.
ARC on Kindle
I have never highlighted on a kindle until I read this book. Some parts of this book touched a raw searching nerve in me that made all the hairs on my neck stand up. And I don’t know of any big decisions weighing heavily on my heart and mind right now!
Some people have commented they are not going to read it bc of the “God focus.” I am here to tell you that is a mistake. I would consider myself a seeker and spent a couple decades angry at God for things that happened and people he put in charge of churches. But there is a small part inside of me that knows there is something in the universe that is greater than me and I choose to call it Love. Whenever Emily refers to God, I literally subbed the word Love and it unlocked messages that I really needed to hear. Don’t let your fear of the human mess get in the way of the soul message.

Emily Freeman is my favorite Christian voice and author. A lot of what she shares in this book, she has already shared on her podcast by the same name, but her voice is worth it. She always gently reminds me who I am in Christ no matter what topic she writes about.
Helpful insight for those who struggle making decisions. Took me a bit to read as non-fiction does at times but practical and helpful information.

This is a workbook for life and decision making. Emily lives up to get mission of creating space for one's soul to breathe. Grateful for this guide. It met me right where I needed it to in this season of life.
I listened and followed along in her book. Emily's voice helps me feel her words. Her words are of encouragement and love, stories of her life experiences, and wonky ways we feel. I do not have a lurking decision to make. That doesn't make any difference when reading this book. It's full of wisdom, love and joy.
Finishing the final page, I closed this book with held breath and a sacred respect. What a gift it was for me. I wasn’t on the cusp of any particularly big decision but I long to live more present. And the simple, yet wildly insightful, practices in the book offered me just that. Through story, personal reflection, and wisdom, Emily gives us a way to be present that is a gift I will open again and again throughout my life.
I couldn’t put this down once I started. Freeman has a lovely way of breaking down a spiritual decision making process into digestible and actionable steps, furthered by the inclusion of prayer and practice at the end of every chapter
