While I really like a lot of what was said in this book (creating space for your soul to breathe being my favorite), I didn’t find it life-altering. Much of the content I’d heard previously on her podcast (same title), and I was hoping for a little bit more I think.
If you haven’t heard the podcast or prefer reading to listening, this book would be a beneficial read. Rather than listing a step by step process, Emily P Freeman helps guide you to listen more to your heart (and God) as you make decisions, discerning your next right thing.

I loved this book! It is a devotional that feels like chatting with a friend, because the author writes as though she is just sharing life with you. Highly suggest for those who are working through what their faith looks like now, or who are pondering what’s next in their life.
Emily P. Freeman, you are a joy and so is this book (and podcast)! This was such a wonderful thing to read, and it's helped me think deeply about presence, naming feelings and emotions, and simply focusing on the next right thing rather than the days and years ahead. It's helped me think about decisions and notice Jesus in the invitations, quiet whispers, and the hopes of my heart. I hope to think about this for years to come, and am excited to start the journal that accompanies this book!
If you're in a season of transition, of needing to make decisions, or simply want to unclutter your soul and find deep, soulful rest, then this book might be just for you.

I was really excited about this book. I love Emily's writing and her way of thinking and I thought I was going to love this book. However, if you are not Christian, this book is not for you. With most religious books, I can just ignore any Christian references. With this book, you can't skip the religious references since they're everywhere in the book. Almost every point includes Christian references. I can understand that she wants to bring her faith into her writing, but I felt it could have been done in a way where you could still understand the book even if you didn't understand the Christian references.
In a different season of my life this review might be different, but I read this book at the absolute perfect time (in other words: I have a huge, looming, life-altering decision to make). I had this audiobook on hold for months and it arrived at the perfect time on the perfect day. It was exactly what I needed to hear and I devoured it in one sitting.

The Next Right Thing did not disappoint! I always have difficulty making decisions, both small and especially big ones. Emily P. Freeman points out that the decision is rarely the point and that we should pause to know our own desires before we make the decision. These seem like obvious bits of advice, but I have been inspired to make better decisions! I highly recommend The Next Right Thing.
