Amazing book with a real heart warming quality. Just the book I needed at this time of my life. 

This follows the journey of Gertie and Hedy, a Jewish girl sent to England for her safety. 

The book deals with themes of the camaraderie during the Blitz as well how literature helps us escape life, it certainly helped me escape for 24 hours. 

Highly recommend this book.

What a great read about the healing power of books. I was wrapped up in the story of these families and was so moved by their ability to continue on with life and fight during and after the war had taken so much from them.

Emotional rollercoaster of a story!! Slow at first but absolutely amazing story set in World War 2. Ups and downs of how characters coped with changing circumstances of the war and found myself rooting for each character and praying that all would turn out ok. Very well historically researched and truly demonstrates power of community, hope and how much of a comfort reading can be to us.

absolutely beautiful writing. i have a soft spot for historical fiction and this one just warms the heart with a great story of courage and resilience. cant wait to read more from the same author!
