Apparently unpopular opinion, I really enjoyed this one. I always love a serial killer POV and this had a great balance with the ME's perspective as well. I definitely did not see the twist coming at ALL. However, I can see how some people would hate the ending with the horrible cliffhanger given that the next book was just released so I may have only enjoyed it knowing I can immediately get resolution.

sigh..i was really excited to read this book, i was fully ready to give it a solid 4 stars… until i hit the 70% mark i would say. major letdown.
the story follows a forensic investigator and a serial killer with alternating povs and for most of the book i was completely hooked. i loved the cat and mouse game between the two main characters. but then we get to the ending and it just… stops. there’s no real resolution which is frustrating. i get that there’s a second book but i really feel like there should have been some kind of closure in this one. instead i was left feeling unsatisfied and cheated.
there’s also a huge twist in the middle of the book. it felt so out of place and confusing that i had to double check i hadn’t missed something important. even then, it just didn’t add up. it was supposed to be this big shocking moment but really it just left me feeling lost. i thought maybe the ending would tie everything together and justify that twist but nope it was just abrupt and left me hanging.
i’m not even interested in picking up the second book. i really think this story could have been wrapped up nicely in one volume especially if it was longer. it’s such a shame because i was genuinely enjoying the ride until the last bit.

I was nervous to read this because I love Alaina! Her podcast, Morbid, is my all time favorite. The book was good until it was great! I enjoyed the twist and it caught me off guard. 10/10 would recommend and cannot wait for the second installment.
